Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd.

Work by the Port of Keelung, TIPC on the S07 and S08 Revetment, Dike, and Land Reclamation Project at Taipei Port formally commenced on July 16th, 2020. This green construction project will recycle materials used to make the temporary dikes to build the permanent 590m-long revetment that will shore up two new wharves (S07 and S08). Moreover, dredged coastal seabed material will be use to reclaim 16.5ha of new land (S07-1 and S08-1). The project is scheduled for completion at the end of July 2022 at a total cost of NT$646 million. In addition to adding new land area and lease revenues at Taipei Port, this project is expected to further streamline port functions and increase the efficiency of port operations.

In line with 2025 national energy transformation goals, the Taipei International Ports Corporation (TIPC) has designated Taipei Port’s South Terminal as a ‘multifunctional, multipurpose development area’ under the near-term development goals in the national “Overall Planning for Future Development and Construction at Taiwan’s International Commercial Ports: 2017-2021” planning document. Reclamation work will be completed first in zone A, followed by zones B and C, respectively. Public infrastructure and other basic construction is currently underway in zone A, with work to be completed next year (2021). With regard to zone B, in addition to work on the S07 and S08 Revetment, Dike, and Land Reclamation Project, work is ongoing on Wharf No. S09 and adjacent reclaimed land (S09-1), with work to be completed in February 2021. With regard to zone C, fill work has already been completed on this section of reclaimed land. The combined area of zones A, B, and C will be a total of around 146ha.

Furthermore, in line with national wind energy policies, land covered by the aforementioned S07 and S08 Project as well as Wharf No. S09 and adjacent land has been designated as a future base for the handling and supply of wind-turbine underwater support structures. This important addition to Taipei Port is expected to further national green energy goals, provide critical momentum to Taiwan’s green-energy economy, help meet domestic demand for offshore windfarm expansion, foster a positive environment for national wind-energy development, and help Taiwan realize energy security, green economy advantages, and true environmental sustainability.
