To improve its services to visitors and to the general public, the Port of Keelung is implementing plans to open a new parking lot in the port’s Western District, behind Wharf No. 3. The parking lot will accommodate around 100 passenger vehicles.
Port of Keelung administrators anticipate welcoming 850,000 cruise ship visitors this year. In order to meet the needs of tourists and the public and to meet the need for new parking facilities due to the expansion of Zhongshan 1st and 2nd Roads, the Port of Keelung plans to build a new parking facility in the Western District, behind Wharf No. 3. With spaces for around 100 cars, the parking fee will be set at a reasonable NT$30/hour with a maximum full-day fare of NT$180. The new facility will not only be convenient for those who are catching ferry passages in the port’s Western District but will also offer welcome new parking opportunities for Keelung City residents and visitors who already face a chronic lack of adequate downtown parking. The Port of Keelung is currently considering the possibility of offering discount incentives on monthly parking. The results of public bidding for lot construction were determined on July 5th and work is scheduled to commence later this year, on September 13th.
Once opened, tourists and ship passengers may park in the new lot and easily explore the friendly city of Keelung on foot, watch cargo ships and luxury cruise liners glide into their berths from bustling Maritime Plaza, and enjoy watching the sea and graceful local eagles, drinking a cup of delicious coffee, and ‘drinking in’ the harbor’s sumptuous nighttime scenery -- the perfect fusion of cultural and maritime experiences!
